Teaching and Training Workplace Diversity: Bridging the Research-Practice Gap.

George Mason University School of Management Arlington, VA

The George Mason University’s School of Management is pleased to announce a forthcoming conference on Teaching and Training Workplace Diversity: Bridging the Research-Practice Gap.

This conference will be of value to those who teach courses on organizational diversity, those who provide diversity training in the workplace, and those who do research on diversity teaching or training. The conference has been designed to decrease the gap between research and practice in the domain of diversity education - both teaching and training. We have scheduled workshops on critical issues and have commitments from some wonderful speakers including Professor Bernardo Ferdman, who will give a keynote address titled “On the Shoulders of Giants? The Role of Scholarship and Research in Diversity Teaching and Training” and Mary-Frances Winters, whose keynote address is titled “Diversity Training: Does it Make a Difference?”. All the workshops will be 90 minutes long and will involve substantial participant involvement. Last year’s participants were enthusiastic about the conference and this year’s conference promises to be even better.

The conference will begin with a reception, dinner, and keynote remarks on the evening of Thursday, July 10, and will end at noon on Saturday, July 12, thus leaving time for visitors to take advantage of Washington, D.C., Saturday afternoon and Sunday. Those who are interested should register for the conference and the hotel as soon as possible. Space is limited. The conference will be held in the Hilton Arlington and we got a great room rate ($119) that will continue through Saturday night. The hotel is right next to a Metro station, and provides easy access to all of D.C. and even National Airport.

More information about the program and other aspects of the conference are available at som.gmu.edu/diversity. You may also contact David Kravitz at dkravitz@gmu.edu or 703-993-1781.

Come one, come all. We're going to have fun and grow professionally. Join us.
